Outplacement FAQs

Outplacement is employer-paid career transition support that helps employees move forward after a layoff or organizational change. The employer selects a program, and employees work directly with The Career Strategy Group on their next career steps. Support can include career coaching, resume writing, LinkedIn profile development, networking, interview preparation, and salary negotiation.

Our comprehensive programs combine personalized, one-to-one career coaching with professional resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile writing. Our clients rave about our outplacement services and often feel like a “new person” after seeing their accomplishments on paper for the first time. Employees can also receive guidance on identifying their next role, developing a job search strategy, building their network, preparing for interviews, and negotiating offers. We also offer focused writing and coaching packages, with digital career resources available depending on the program selected.

How much time do you have? Just kidding. We can boil it down to a few important differences:

  • *One client. One dedicated coach.* As many outplacement programs move toward technology-led services, we’ve found a way to keep costs manageable without compromising on personalized support. The knowledge, troubleshooting, and preparation that go into landing a great job happen through a relationship with a coach. Webinars and resources can supplement that relationship, but they don’t replace it. We tailor the service to the individual—not the individual to the service.
  •  *“Done-for-you” professionally written resumes that help people stand out.* Our multiply certified resume writers are nationally recognized experts who go beyond formatting and generic language to uncover each person’s accomplishments and communicate what makes them valuable to an employer. The result is a polished, compelling resume that sounds like the individual and gives recruiters a clear reason to take a closer look.
  • *Support for whatever comes next.* Sometimes, career transition conversations reveal that another traditional job may not be the right next step. Our coaching can extend to self-employment, retirement, life transitions, and more. We meet your people where they are and help them gain momentum—because we know the view two steps ahead can look very different from where they’re standing today.
  •  *Personal service for the employer, too.* A clear point of contact, help coordinating enrollment, and useful utilization updates can make the process easier for HR.

The cost varies based on the services included, the duration of support, and employees’ career levels. We offer options ranging from resume and professional branding packages to comprehensive career transition programs. We can absolutely create a program that works with your organization’s needs and budget.

Yes, absolutely. You do not need a large layoff to offer meaningful career transition support. We work with employers supporting a single departing employee, a small team, or a larger group affected by organizational change.

Our comprehensive programs emphasize personalized, one-to-one coaching. While our packages do include job search technology access, we do not rely on webinars or asynchronous learning to teach our job seekers how to land a job. That is done one-on-one, always. Employees work with an experienced career coach to address their specific goals and challenges. Group workshops can also be incorporated when appropriate, with the support included clearly outlined in your proposal.

Our comprehensive programs can be purchased in one month to 12-month packages. We always recommend at least three months of one-to-one career transition support to give your folks the best head start, but we can create a meaningful package for you for less, if need be. Should you plan include it, clients can access our THRIVE portal for 12 months, regardless of the duration of package purchased.

Yes. We’ve worked with individuals at all levels, from entry-level to C-level executives. We support employees across career levels, including individual contributors, managers, and executives. Coaching and professional branding are tailored to each employee’s experience, career goals, and target opportunities.

Yes, and we do. Based in the Washington, DC area, The Career Strategy Group provides virtual career coaching and remote resume and branding services to employees nationwide. This allows employers with multiple offices or distributed teams to offer personalized support wherever employees live. We have partnered with companies all over the country.

We pride ourselves on being a very agile team. Unless you are laying off a big group, we can be ready for your group within a day or two. But involving us before employee notifications have been conducted always gives us time to prepare enrollment information and organize onboarding.

Employer reporting focuses on enrollment and service utilization, rather than private coaching conversations. Employees’ personal concerns, interview discussions, and individual job search details are treated as confidential. Reporting arrangements and confidentiality terms are established before the program begins.

Never! In fact, the ‘clock’ doesn’t start until your affected employee meets with their coach or writer.
